ABOUT AL RENDÒN
Al Rendón is a fine art and commercial photographer based in San Antonio, Texas. His lens-based career has spanned fifty years. Beginning as a live music photographer, he captured touring rock, conjunto, and Tejano musicians across South Texas. His collaborative work with recording artist Selena Quintanilla has been a definable moment in his expansive career, with his photography as the cover of her 1992 album Entre a Mi Mundo. The portraits of the fallen musician and other prominent Texas icons are in the National Portrait Gallery and the Smithsonian American History collections. His scenes of San Antonio’s Mexican culture featuring charreadas (Mexican rodeos), religious pageantry, and artists act as a continued homage to his hometown and the memorable vernacular scenes of the region. In 2023, the Witte Museum in San Antonio hosted a retrospective exhibition and commemorative book, Mi Cultura—Bringing Shadows Into the Light.
