NXTHVN Film Screening:
Unsung Heroes: The Music of Jazz in New Haven

Thursday, February 9, 2023
6–8PM
Location: 169 Henry St, New Haven, CT 06511
Free and open to the public

NXTHVN invites you to attend our film screening of Unsung Heroes: The Music of Jazz in New Haven. Celebrate Black History Month this year by learning about Dixwell’s unique jazz history and legacy. Once home to numerous jazz clubs, including the Monterey, famed jazz musicians like John Coltrane, Charles Parker, Duke Ellington, and Billie Holiday all performed in the Dixwell neighborhood.

Following the screening, stick around for a live panel discussion and Q&A featuring musicians and community leaders, moderated by scholar and co-writer of the film, Frank Mitchell. Hear from Delores Greenlee, the daughter of vaudeville performer and Monterey founder, Rufus Greenlee, and internationally recognized drummers, Jesse Hameen II and Ryan Sands.

We look forward to seeing you!
