Austin FC advanced to the Western Conference Semifinals on Sunday by defeating Real Salt Lake 3-1 in a penalty shootout, following a 2-2 score at the end of extra time. MLS MVP finalist Sebastián Driussi scored both of Austin’s goals in regulation as the Verde & Black came back from a two-goal deficit, while goalkeeper Brad Stuver saved two RSL penalty attempts in the shootout.

The result makes Austin the first team in MLS history to win four matches in a single season in which it trailed by multiple goals, and the third team in the last decade to advance in an MLS Cup Playoff match after trailing by multiple goals.

All matches played in the Audi 2022 MLS Cup Playoffs are single-elimination matches. The winner of the Western Conference Semifinal between second-seed Austin FC and third-seed FC Dallas will advance to the Western Conference Final hosted by the highest remaining seed on Sunday, October 30.
